## Herausforderungen

Livia lernt in einer für sie angemessenen Art und Weise das Schneiden der Gurke und den Umgang mit einem scharfen Messer. Behutsam begleitet die Mutter Livia beim Schneiden. Livia darf das Messer und die Gurke selbst halten, doch die Mutter führt das Messer. So erlebt Livia hautnah, wie Gurken geschnitten werden und wie sich das Führen des Messers anfühlt. Gleichzeitig ist ihre Sicherheit zu jedem Zeitpunkt gewährleistet. Livia wird dabei herausgefordert. Das Schneiden ist eine Tätigkeit, die sie noch nicht selbständig durchführen kann. Doch dank der Begleitung durch die Mutter ist Livia nicht überfordert. Dadurch wird diese Situation zur Lernsituation, in der Livia profitieren kann.

Anders ist es bei Mauro. Er hat schon viele solche Erfahrungen sammeln können und kann schon selbständig mit dem Schäler hantieren. Gewissenhaft übt er seine Fertigkeiten beim Karottenschälen – er achtet ganz genau darauf, dass kein Stückchen Schale übrig bleibt. Gleichzeitig schaut er aber auch immer wieder neugierig zu seiner jüngeren Schwester.

Einerseits brauchen Kinder neue Erfahrungsmöglichkeiten. Dies bedeutet, den Kindern auch etwas zuzutrauen. Andererseits ist es Aufgabe der Erwachsenen, den Kindern Schutz und Sicherheit zu bieten. Um hier einen guten Mittelweg zu finden, bedarf es des genauen und einfühlsamen Beobachtens und manchmal auch etwas Zuversicht: Was kann das Kind schon? Welches Vorwissen hat es und welche Erfahrungen bringt es mit? Wie kann der nächste Schritt aussehen? Wie würde das Kind reagieren, wenn es doch über- oder unterfordert wäre?

## Teilhaben und mitwirken

Die Mutter bezieht die Kinder beim Vorbereiten des Mittagessens mit ein. So schafft sie eine wichtige Lerngelegenheit für die Kinder. Die Kinder freuen sich, dass sie mithelfen dürfen. Denn Kinder wollen sich beteiligen und einen Beitrag für die Gemeinschaft – hier die Familie – leisten. Sie erhalten das Gefühl, dass sie gebraucht werden, etwas bewirken können und für die Familie wichtig sind. Indem die Mutter die notwendige Haushaltsaufgabe mit der Betreuung der Kinder verbindet, dauert es zwar etwas länger. Doch werden die Kinder in ihrer Selbständigkeit gefördert. Langfristig kann dies zu einem partnerschaftlichen Erledigen der Hausarbeit führen.

## Respektvolle Botschaften, Ermutigungen und Anteilnahme

Mauro schaut für einen Moment zu, wie Livia und die Mutter die Gurke schneiden. Er ist beeindruckt und äussert seine Bewunderung: „Livia macht es mega gut.“ Auch das kleine Wort „Super“ der Mutter gibt Livia zu verstehen, wie gut sie es macht und dass sie so weitermachen kann. Positive, aufrichtige Rückmeldungen sind für Kinder wichtig, besonders, wenn sie von bedeutungsvollen Personen stammen. Kinder nehmen generell sehr nuanciert wahr, was die Erwachsenen beachten oder ignorieren, billigen oder missbilligen. Kinder orientieren sich an den Äusserungen der Erwachsenen und ordnen so ihr eigenes Tun ein. Dies kann über sprachliche Kommentare und über Verhaltensweisen geschehen. Die Mutter drückt einerseits ihr Lob sprachlich aus, aber auch durch ihre Aufmerksamkeit und das kontinuierliche Schneiden bekommt Livia Feedback. Respektvolle Botschaften, Ermutigungen und aufrichtige Anteilnahme sind für die personale Entwicklung von Kindern sehr wichtig. Sie helfen Kindern, sich über ihr Tun und ihre Entdeckungen zu freuen, Neues zu wagen und zu üben.

## Sprachliche Begleitung

Die Mutter kommentiert das gemeinsame Schneiden mit Livia auf eine Art und Weise, die sie gut versteht. So unterstützt sie Livia entwicklungsangemessen beim Erlernen der Sprache. „Aber jetzt müssen wir auf die Finger aufpassen.“ Diesen Satz sagt die Mutter zu Livia, aber vermutlich auch zu sich selbst. Für Kinder ist es wichtig, dass Erwachsene mit ihnen sprechen und auch ihre Gedanken in Worte fassen. So lernen Kinder an deren Beispiel, die eigene Aufmerksamkeit zu lenken und eins nach dem anderen zu tun.

Zudem wird das Wort „Schneiden“ von der Mutter und von Livia abwechslungsweise wiederholt. Indem die Mutter Livias Worte aufgreift und wiederholt, erhält Livia ein unmittelbares Feedback auf ihre Äusserungen und erlebt, was sie selbst verbal produziert hat. Die Aktivität des Schneidens wird ausserdem rhythmisch untermalt, was bestens zum Erwerb der Fertigkeit passt.

Die Wiederholung selbst ist eine zentrale Lernstrategie von kleinen Kindern. Das Wort „Schneiden“ wird so im Gedächtnis verankert und gleichzeitig mit der Tätigkeit des Schneidens in Verbindung gebracht.

## Challenges

Livia is learning to cut a cucumber and to use a sharp knife in a way that is appropriate for her. Her mother is carefully helping her to cut. Livia is allowed to hold the knife and cucumber herself, but her mother is guiding the knife. In this way, Livia learns close up how cucumbers are cut and what guiding the knife feels like. At the same time, her safety is ensured at every step. Livia is being given a challenging task. Cutting is an activity that she cannot yet execute by herself. But thanks to her mother’s supervision, the challenging task is not an overwhelming one. That makes the situation one in which Livia can learn.

It is different for Mauro. He has already had lots of opportunities to acquire experience like this and can use the vegetable peeler by himself. He practices his skills diligently when peeling the carrots, paying close attention to make sure no peel is left on the carrot. At the same time he frequently looks over at his sister with interest.

On the one hand, children need new opportunities to gain experience. This means trusting in their ability to do something. On the other hand, it is the adult’s task to give children protection and security. Finding the right middle course requires close and empathetic observation and sometimes also some confidence:what can the child already do? What previous knowledge and experience does the child have? What could the next step be? How would the child react if he or she were overwhelmed or not challenged enough?

## Participating and contributing

The children’s mother has included them in preparing the noontime meal. She is creating an important learning opportunity for them. The children enjoy being allowed to help, for children naturally want to participate and contribute to the group, in this case the family. They gain the feeling that they are needed, that they can be effective and are important to the family. For their mother, combining household tasks with caring for her children means that things take longer. But she is fostering her children’s independence. In the long term this can lead to partnership-like sharing of the household chores.

## Respectful messages, encouragement and taking interest

Mauro watches how his mother and Livia cut the cucumber for a moment. He is impressed and expresses his admiration: “Livia is doing a really nice job.“ And her mother’s word, “super”, tells Livia how well she is doing and that she can continue on. Positive, honest feedback is important for children, especially when it comes from important persons. Children are generally perceptive even of subtleties; they notice what adults pay attention to or ignore, approve or disapprove of. Children orient themselves to adults’ comments and in this way adjust their own behavior. This can occur based on verbal comments and on behavior. Mauro and Livia‘s mother expresses her praise in words, but Livia also gets feedback through her mother’s attention and the fact that they carry on with their cutting. Respectful messages, encouragement and sincere interest are very important for a child’s personal development. They help children to be pleased with their actions and their discoveries and to dare to try and practice new things.

## Language support

Livia’s mother provides a commentary on cutting with Livia in a way that Livia understands. She thus supports Livia’s language learning in a developmentally appropriate way. “We have to be careful of our fingers“: this is what her mother says to Livia but probably also to herself. It is important for children that adults speak with them and put their thoughts into words. Children learn from their example to focus their attention and to do things step by step.

In addition, Livia and her mother take turns repeating the word “cut”. With her mother taking up her words and repeating them, Livia receives direct feedback on what she says and experiences what she herself has produced verbally. Their repetition of the word “cut” also accentuates the rhythmic activity of cutting, which is ideally suited to acquiring the skill.

Repetition itself is a central learning strategy for young children. The word “cut” becomes anchored in Livia’s memory and also becomes connected with the activity of cutting.

## Défis

Livia apprend d’une manière adaptée comment couper un concombre et utiliser un couteau aiguisé. Sa mère l’accompagne avec plein d’égards dans la découpe. Livia a l’autorisation de tenir le concombre et le couteau, mais c’est sa mère qui guide ce dernier. Cela permet à Livia de sentir au plus près comment on coupe un concombre et comment on déplace le couteau. En même temps, sa sécurité est toujours assurée. Mais elle ne s’en trouve pas moins face à un défi qu’elle relève. Découper est une activité qu’elle n’est pas encore capable d’accomplir de manière autonome. Mais grâce à l’aide de sa mère, elle n’est pas dépassée. Cette situation devient ainsi une situation d’apprentissage dont elle peut tirer profit.

Pour Mauro, c’est différent. Il a beaucoup plus d’expériences semblables et peut déjà utiliser l’éplucheur tout seul. Il exerce ses compétences consciencieusement sur des carottes, en faisant bien attention à ce qu’il ne reste aucune pelure. Mais en même temps, il jette sans cesse des regards de curiosité vers sa petite sœur.

D’une part, les enfants ont besoin de nouvelles opportunités d’expérimenter. Cela signifie qu’il convient, dans une certaine mesure, de leur faire confiance, mais que, d’autre part, il incombe aux adultes de leur offrir protection et sécurité. Pour trouver ici un juste milieu, il est nécessaire d’être précis dans ses observations et d’agir avec empathie, et parfois aussi avec une certaine assurance: de quoi l’enfant est-il déjà capable ? Quelles connaissances possède-t-il déjà et quelles expériences a-t-il déjà faites? Quelle pourrait être la prochaine étape? Comment l’enfant réagira-t-il s’il est dépassé ou au contraire insuffisamment sollicité par la situation?

## Participer et collaborer

La mère implique ses enfants dans la préparation du repas de midi. Elle leur fournit ainsi une importante occasion d’apprendre. Les enfants sont contents de pouvoir aider. Car ils veulent participer et apporter une contribution à la collectivité – ici, à la famille. Ils en retirent le sentiment d’être utiles, efficaces et importants pour la famille. Cela dure certes un peu plus longtemps, car la mère associe cette tâche aux soins prodigués à ses enfants. Mais cela favorise l’autonomie des enfants. A long terme, cela peut conduire à une répartition partenariale des tâches ménagères.

## Des messages respectueux, des encouragements et de l’empathie

Mauro regarde un moment Livia et leur mère découper le concombre. Il est impressionné et dit son admiration: «Livia le fait super bien.» «Super», c’est aussi ce que dit la mère, qui fait ainsi comprendre à Livia qu’elle le fait bien et qu’elle peut continuer comme cela. Les feedbacks positifs et francs sont essentiels pour les enfants, surtout s’ils sont dits par des personnes importantes pour eux. Les enfants perçoivent en général de manière très nuancée ce que les adultes prennent en compte ou ignorent, ce qu’ils approuvent ou désapprouvent. Ce qu’expriment les adultes leur fournit un cadre général dans lequel ils insèrent leurs actions. Cela peut passer par des commentaires verbaux ou par des attitudes. La mère exprime ses compliments par des mots, mais elle donne aussi à Livia un feedback par l’attention qu’elle lui porte et par la continuité du processus de découpe. Des messages respectueux, des encouragements et une sincère empathie sont très importants pour le développement personnel de l’enfant. Ils l’aident à se réjouir de ses actes et de ses découvertes, à oser accomplir des choses nouvelles et à s’entraîner.

## L’accompagnement par la parole

La mère commente la découpe du concombre qu’elle effectue avec Livia d’une manière que celle-ci comprend bien. Elle soutient ainsi Livia d’une façon adaptée à son développement dans l’acquisition du langage. «Attention. Il faut faire attention à tes doigts.» Cette phrase, la mère la prononce à l’intention de Livia, mais certainement aussi pour elle-même. Il est important pour les enfants que des adultes leur parlent et expriment leurs pensées avec des mots. Ils peuvent ainsi apprendre, en suivant le modèle des adultes, à guider leur propre attention et à faire une chose après l’autre.

Le mot «couper» est répété à tour de rôle par la mère et par Livia. En reprenant les paroles de Livia, sa mère lui donne un feedback immédiat, lui permettant de ressentir elle-même ce qu’elle a produit sur le plan verbal. L’activité de la découpe est en outre une activité rythmée, ce qui se prête particulièrement bien à l’acquisition de l’adresse.

La répétition elle-même est une stratégie centrale pour favoriser l’apprentissage chez les jeunes enfants. Le mot «couper» restera inscrit dans la mémoire et associé à l’activité concrète elle-même.

## Sollecitazioni

In un modo adatto a lei Livia impara a tagliare il cetriolo e a comportarsi con un coltello affilato. La mamma segue con attenzione Livia mentre taglia. Livia può tenere da sola il coltello e il cetriolo, ma, la mamma, guida i movimenti del coltello. Così Livia sperimenta in prima persona come si tagliano i cetrioli e cosa si prova a maneggiare il coltello. Allo stesso tempo, in ogni momento, la sua sicurezza è garantita. Facendo in questo modo Livia viene stimolata. Tagliare è un'attività che non può ancora svolgere autonomamente. Ma, grazie al sostegno da parte della madre, Livia non è sopraffatta. E’ così che questa situazione diventa un’occasione di apprendimento di cui Livia può beneficiare.

Diversa la situazione per Mauro. Egli ha già potuto collezionare molte di queste esperienze e può lavorare in modo indipendente con il pelapatate. Con scrupolo esercita le sue abilità pelando le carote, facendo molta attenzione affinché non rimangano pezzi di buccia. Allo stesso tempo continua a osservare, con curiosità, sua sorella minore.

Da un lato i bambini hanno bisogno di nuove opportunità per fare esperienze. Questo significa che bisogna credere nelle possibilità dei bambini. D'altra parte, ed è una responsabilità degli adulti, occorre offrire loro protezione e sicurezza. Al fine di trovare una buona via di mezzo è necessaria un’osservazione accurata e sensibile e, talvolta, è importante dare fiducia: cosa sa già fare il bambino? Quali conoscenze ha già acquisito e quali esperienze porta con sé? Quale potrebbe essere il prossimo passo? Come reagirà il bambino se fosse sopraffatto o troppo poco sollecitato?

## Partecipare e collaborare

La mamma coinvolge i bambini nella preparazione del pranzo. In questo modo si crea un'importante occasione di apprendimento. I bambini sono felici di poter aiutare. I bambini vogliono partecipare e dare un contributo alla comunità e, in questo caso, alla famiglia. I bambini hanno così la sensazione di essere utili, di saper ottenere dei risultati ed essere importanti per la famiglia. Quando la madre combina i lavori di casa con la cura dei bambini, ci vuole automaticamente un po’ più di tempo per fare tutto. Tuttavia, in questo modo, i bambini vengono incoraggiati ad essere indipendenti. A lungo termine, questo modo di fare, può avere quale risultato una partecipazione nel disbrigo dei lavori di casa.

## Messaggi rispettosi, incoraggiamenti e partecipazione

Mauro osserva per un momento come Livia e la mamma tagliano il cetriolo. E’ impressionato ed esprime la sua ammirazione: “Livia lo fa super bene”. Anche la piccola parola “super”, detta dalla mamma, fa capire a Livia che lo sta facendo bene e che può continuare così. I riscontri positivi e sinceri sono importanti per i bambini, soprattutto quando provengono da persone per loro importanti. Generalmente i bambini percepiscono in modo molto sfumato ciò che gli adulti osservano o ignorano, approvano o disapprovano. I bambini si basano molto sulle osservazioni degli adulti per organizzare le loro azioni. Questo può avvenire tramite commenti verbali e in base ai comportamenti. Da un lato la madre esprime in forma verbale la sua lode, ma, da un altro lato, la lode della madre giunge a Livia anche attraverso la sua attenzione e il fatto che non interrompe il taglio del cetriolo.Per lo sviluppo personale sono molto importanti i messaggi che esprimono rispetto, gli incoraggiamenti, e le forme partecipative, quando sono autentiche. Queste modalità aiutano i bambini ad apprezzare le loro stesse azioni e le loro scoperte, inducendoli a provare e a sperimentare cose nuove.

## Accompagnamento linguistico

La madre commenta in modo linguisticamente comprensibile il lavoro di taglio che sta facendo Livia. Così facendo sostiene Livia in modo adeguato nel processo d’apprendimento della lingua. “Ora dobbiamo stare attente alle dita.” La mamma dice questa frase a Livia, ma probabilmente anche a se stessa. Per i bambini è molto importante che gli adulti parlino con loro e che traducano in parole i loro pensieri. Attraverso l’esempio degli adulti i bambini imparano a orientare la loro attenzione e a fare una cosa dopo l’altra.

Inoltre, la parola "tagliare", viene ripetuta alternativamente dalla madre e da Livia. La madre riprende e ripete le parole della figlia, in questo modo Livia ha un feedback immediato su quanto dice. Oltre a ciò, sperimenta ciò che lei stessa ha prodotto verbalmente. L'attività di taglio viene evidenziata dalla ritmicità, è questo un aspetto che facilita l’apprendimento di questa abilità.

La ripetizione è di per sé una strategia di apprendimento centrale per i bambini piccoli. La parola “tagliare” è ancorata nella memoria e, contemporaneamente, viene posta in collegamento con l’azione del tagliare.
